Luke needed to get out. He just had training practice and nothing else was happening, he was in his room thinking of things to do. Library? No. Movie? No. Museum? No. Then when he thought of museum a thing came with it. The name of a Greek god: Apollo. When Luke lived in Boston, it was required to learn how to ride a horse, and he loved doing it. When he moved to New York, he was feeling extremely depressed. So, he sought after a horse stables that had riding horses. When he found one, the subway was his transport, then on foot for about 16 minutes.
When he arrived at the stables, they treated him kindly, and showed him their riding horses. He remembered it like it was yesterday.

Luke followed the head keeper of the horses, Courtney, past stall after stall. "Over here is Queeny, and over there is Greyson." She pointed to the stall across the hay covered concrete ground. It was the end of the third stable, and still Luke didn't like any of them for riding. He had on jeans and a long sleeved t-shirt. Then at the end, there was a stall with a small kid stallion in it. "Which one's that?" Luke said pointing in between the steel bars. "Oh, he doesn't have a name. No one has owned him yet." She was about to walk out of the stable, but Luke stayed at the one horse's stall, "Where are his parents?" He asked not taking his eyes of the small colt.
Courtney backed up, "His mother died at birth and his father was hit by a truck. It was a really sad day," She saw Luke's stare and approached the door and unlocked it, "If you want to take a look at him you can." Luke rushed into the stall, and ran his hand down the neck of the colt. "You are like me huh? Both of us have no parents..." He said to the horse. It was thin legged, and gaunt. It's mane was coarse from malnutrition, "We try to feed him, but he just doesn't eat. We guessed that it was because he has not parents, so we are taking care of him as much as we can and let him go easily." Courtney had genuine care in her voice, like she cared for the colt's life.
"Can I have some feed? Or an apple or carrot?" he said holding out a hand. "Yeah, I think I have one more carrot left," Courtney reached into her back pocket, pulling out a plastic bag with a large orange carrot in it, she handed it to him. "Like I said he doesn't eat, but if you want to try," Luke took the carrot and brushed the colt's neck, holding it out near his mouth. "Come on, I know you want it," He said gently. Luke looked in his dark black eyes, "Come on. Trust me, I know where you're coming from, my parent's passed away as well. I didn't eat for about four days. Then when I thought about it, there was no reason not to eat, so when I did, it helped me get over their deaths." He held the carrot near the horse's mouth again, and it took a small bite out of the vegetable.
Courtney had a look of shock on her face, "Oh my god! That's the first thing he's eaten since his father died!" Luke fed the colt the rest of the carrot and stood up, "How much is he? I want to buy him," he spoke this in complete sincerity. "Well, since he's not really turning a profit right now... If you can get him to stay alive and eat, I'll let you have him for $200." This was music to Luke's ears. It was literally the exact amount he had earned from working in the past month.
After signing all the papers, and calling Luke G. and Mayrse to see if it was OK with them, (which it kind of wasn't but Luke didn't care), he signed the adoption papers and payed for the colt. "Now one last thing," Courtney said, hitting the bottom of the stack of papers to align them, "What are you going to name him?" Luke thought for a minute, something smart, yet understandable. Something cool, yet clever. His mind wrapped around Greek mythology. "Apollo. His hair reminds me of Apollo," he answered finally. This was true, Apollo's hair and main was a murky blond-gold color.
However, after a while, and proper nutrition, Apollo's hair and mane became a rather white body, gold mane, instead of brownish body, gold mane. He grew tall and strong, but would only allow for Luke to ride him. Anyone else he would try to throw off, other than Courtney, but she could just walk him. One day, when there were a bunch of visitors from the country club looking for horses to buy, Luke was arriving to present, but not sell, Apollo. When he got to his stall, a group of boys were harassing the stallion. Luke almost went full Shadowhunter on them, kicking their asses out of the stable, almost literally. No one messed with Apollo past that day.

Luke hadn't seen Apollo since he left, but he stayed in touch with Courtney on how he was doing. When Luke's cab pulled up to the stables, he got out and practically ran for the front desk. Courtney sat at it, reading a magazine on weight loss. "You know those things never work right?" Luke said, scarring her. "Well I'd be damned, Luke Hexcaster. How the hell are you?"
After a bunch of hellos and hugs to some of the stable attendants, Luke finally got to Apollo's stall. The big stallion was sleeping, his head against the bars of the stall. Luke ran his hand down Apollo's head, "Hey there bud! How are you doing?" The stallion woke up instantly, and neighed happily in Luke's hand. He entered the stall and ran a hand down Apollo's white-gold flank, "You've gotten larger since I last saw you! Courtney has been taking care of you I see," looking at the full feed bucket and full water holder, "Well, how about I get you out of this cramped stall?" Apollo snorted in agreement.
Gripping his reigns, Luke lead Apollo to the riding grange, basically a huge meadow with some fences and barrels for rider's to practice for events. But right now, Luke just wanted to ride. He climbed onto Apollo, and sat on the leather saddle. His boots looped in the foot placers, Luke rode Apollo out into the grange. "Ok boy, let's see if you've gotten a bit rusty in my absence," he hiked his boots and Apollo basically said, "Challenge accepted." He broke into a full sprint through the meadow, wind blowing Luke's blond hair. Yeah, he hadn't.
