The usually busy New York Streets seemed quiet and deserted this night. It seemed like lately everything in Evie's life was quiet and deserted these days. It felt like ages since she had any excitement in her life. Unless of course you count the brutal training sessions her father put her and her twin brother Evan through all the time. Evie sighed as she continued looking through the window. She spotted a family across the street walking along the sidewalk with a giggling toddler in between them. It just didn't seem fair that mundanes had such minor cares in the world. Ever since her mother died, Evie's father had started to follow the misguided ways of Valentine Morgenstern. Now although she had never met the guy Evie could only imagine, based of her fathers demeanor, that he was a horrible little man. And Evie felt like he was the reason she'd never experience the happy family image like the mundanes were showing.
Evie played with the corner of a laminated
menu and glanced down at her watch, she still had quite a bit of time left before her father came back from his "meeting" and noticed she was gone. The sound of approaching footsteps caused Evie to snap out of her thoughts and look up to the approaching waiter. She straightened herself
and smiled politely as the waiter finally reached the table. ”Hi, I’m Donny and I’ll be your server, can I get you
anything to drink or eat today?” he asked nicely with a strong Italian accent. "Oh yes" Evie started "I'll have a large sprite and the pancake platter with lot of bacon!" The waiter nodded and took the menu before he walked back to the kitchen to place her order. Breakfast for dinner was always a favorite ritual for Evie. She smiled lightly to her self and sat back in her booth to observe her surroundings.
